Hanukkah Holiday Stocking
If Christmas is the holiday you celebrate, each holiday season your family puts up a Christmas tree, bakes cookies, and hangs stockings on the mantle.
Then one year something changes. Whether it's through marriage or friendship you find yourself inviting a guest of another faith to your home at holiday time. To a host or hostess who always wants all of their guests to feel included mixing religions can create certain challenges. So, what can you do to help blend religions in a manner that is inclusive so that your guest feels welcomed?
When it happened to me this was my solution, a Hanukkah stocking. After all both Christmas and Hanukkah involve gifts. So why not put them into a stocking?
I had a DIY stocking pattern that I had picked up at a fabric store years ago. The only difference was that I went to my local fabric shop and purchased Hanukkah fabric to create the stocking you see at left.
Over the years I've made several of these Hanukkah stockings and so far all of the recipients have loved them. I also make the extra effort to wrap their gifts in Hanukkah gift wrap instead of using the Christmas wrap on hand. Truly, when you see someone's face light up, not at the gift inside of the stocking but by the consideration and thoughtfulness you have given them, it will warm your own holiday spirit no matter which holiday you celebrate!
