Paper Sakura (Cherry Blossoms)

I HAVE to thank my mom. When I decided I wanted delicate paper cherry blossoms scattered around the center of each reception table I was prepared to cut all of those flowers with specialty paper punches myself. But then my mom kindly volunteered for the job! Being no dummy I sent her the punches and stacks of light and fuchsia pink vellum.

She made hundreds upon hundreds of them for me. Possibly even thousands. And not only did she cut them... She even hand folded about a third of them to create some extra dimension in some of the blossoms. Then she divided them up into plastic bags and sent them back to me.

They looked truly gorgeous on the table and were even more special because my mom made them. I saved as many as I could and plan to put them in a beautiful glass container as a keepsake.

To complete the look I scattered some tiny origami cranes around the table as well.

Hi Eve,

Since they are sold out of the small I would get the Medium and Large sizes :)

Hi Jessie,

There is a website that has the sakura paper punch available though sometimes sizes are sold out so you may have to check back:

what paper did you use for this?

Hi Jana, I used two shades of pink vellum paper.

I purchased them at Only the Best in Los Gatos, CA for 40¢ per 8.5" X 11" sheet.

I just called and they said they do currently stock both colors: phone 408.356.7362

If you don't live in the Bay Area they will ship the paper to you but you would need to pay for the shipping charges. Their website is not set up as a commerce site so the easiest thing would be to call them to place an order over the phone.

Hi Karen,

Unfortunately I don't remember how many sheets we used. I do recall that we were able to punch them in straight rows along the edges though so depending on the size of your punch(s) you will need more paper the larger your punch is.

My best suggestion is to order your punch(s) first and practice punching out enough blossoms to sprinkle on one table using regular paper and multiply that number by the number of tables to decide how many sheets of vellum you'll need.

One tip I can give you is to punch around the edges of the paper then use scissors to cut the remnants of the flowers you just punched off the edge of the sheet of paper so that you always have a clean edge to punch along.

Does that make sense? If it doesn't let me know and I can create a couple of photos for you.
