Married in October of 2007 Stacie was the quintessential Flirty Bride and used her own wedding as an opportunity to bring to life her vision of what a flirty bride is, and how much fun she should have, both planning her own wedding and at the wedding itself.

So Cool. Dramatically Lit, Shrimp on Ice

Share |

s

If you read the shrimp cocktail as a cake topper idea, you already know that the one and only thing my fiance cared about when it came to the menu at our wedding was that we have shrimp cocktail. Not your normal shrimp hanging over the lip of a bowl, or individual prawns in shot glasses. No he wanted, needed, had to have big piles of shrimp. As in PILES! Now for those of us who who want things to be aesthetically pleasing? Can you appreciate the conundrum this created? How do you make a pile of shrimp look elegant?

Our Director of Catering suggested ice bowls. Not one, but two of them. And to top it off they were lit up from the inside so they were clear, and cool and glowy all at the same time. Here is one of our two shrimp bowls. The obvious benefit is that they kept the shrimp cold. The bowls themselves weren't that expensive, relative to the price of the shrimp that is. And it looked sooooooo cool!

This was the photo our Lea showed me when we first considered the ice bowls. I showed it to my fiance. His first reaction was "Why are we paying extra money for a bowl made of ice?" I corrected him that it would be 2 bowls of ice, not one. Heh heh. His second reaction? He didn't want crab or prawns that big because they were *creepy looking* to him. *Rolls eyes* In the end I think he was glad we got the ice bowls. I know our guests were. So many commented how cool they thought they were I lost count. They especially loved how they were lit up.

To please our guests we also had a crudité buffet for our vegetarians and one vegan guest, and some hot hand passed Hors d'Oeuvres both with and without meat during the cocktail hour. I never did eat a bite of anything because my stomach was all a flutter but my guests assured me everything was delicious! Judging by the empty shrimp bowl I think I can take their word on that.

The funniest part was that after all of the planning that went into the shrimp cocktail and making the custom cake topper? I didn't get to eat a single shrimp because I'm allergic. LOL
