Volunteerism is a great thing. Whether you're raising hope, awareness or money for a worthy cause or a specific group of people, animals or the planet, the main thing is that you are helping others in need and YOU are making a difference. If you can support an existing cause, great! If you don't meet their criteria in some way but still want to help, start your own effort or organization!
We invite you to learn about causes we at The Flirty Guide support and care about and hope you will too:
These are the causes Stacie supports:

the National Marrow Donor Program(aka www.BeTheMatch.org) Founder: Stacie Tamaki
In February of 2009 Stacie's cousin, Tami, was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer called Myelodysplasia. It is similar to Leukemia but not as common. Upon her diagnosis Tami was told she would need a stem cell transplant. Stacie quickly sprang to action learning about her cousin's condition, the marrow donor program and bone marrow and stem cell transplants. She quickly realized that anyone who is of any minority or mixed ethnicities has poor odds of finding a matching marrow donor in time. Most patients with blood cancers usually have just months to a few years before they will succumb to their illness.
This led her to create www.HelpingTami.org, a website dedicated to helping to recruit more people to join their local donor registries, not just in the U.S. but internationally. To learn more about how you can help CLICK HERE to visit the website.

Newly Diagnosed Patients in Need of Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplants Founder: Stacie Tamaki
Following her cousin Tami's diagnosis of MDS and her need for a stem cell transplant, Stacie realized several things. One was that in the midst of a family and friends reeling from devastating news about a loved one it was a herculean effort to figure out how best to help a loved on in need. There is a lot of information online but some is so scattered across many sites, and some sites are so large, the info is hard to find.
So she saw a need and has created www.MarrowDrives.org with one specific purpose: To show anyone who wants or needs to launch a bone marrow/stem cell donor drive how to do it. The site is an online tutorial that describes ways to help publicize a patient's need (both in person and online) with as many ideas as she can think up and the ideas that have been implemented and used by other patient's and their teams.
The other thing she learned is that even now many doctors will tell their ethnic minority (African American, Asian, Hispanic, Latino, you get the idea) patients or those of any mixed ethnicities that there is no hope for them of finding a match and basically send them home to die. The simple truth is that while it will be harder for them to find a match, there is always a possibility. Hosting donor drives is one of the best ways to improve the chances for patient's world wide as the registries work cooperatively with other countries.

Cutest Dog Ever.com Advocating for Shelter Dogs Nationwide Founder: Stacie Tamaki
In 2003 Stacie Tamaki adopted her first shelter dog. She had gone to the shelter looking for a large 40 to 50 lb watch dog kind of dog. Instead she ended up with the scruffiest, mixed breed dog she'd ever seen. After taking him home she soon discovered that he wasn't just any dog. He was an amazing dog. Yes, he had issues most notably he didn't know how to walk on a leash without pulling and he wanted to attack every dog he saw that was taller then he was. But he also came housebroken and great with kids and other small dogs. With patience and training Kitai (pronounced Key-tie) has become a perfect companion who does lots of tricks (this one too) and wins the heart of almost everyone he meets including the cast of the Today Show.
Knowing that millions of unwanted dogs and cats are euthanized in our nation's shelters each year led her to create a pro-shelter dog website featuring her own pound pup. The site is called www.CutestDogEver.com and is full of information about dog care in general, how to responsibly rehome an unwanted pet, information about puppy lemon laws and more including links to Bay Area shelters and rescues.
